SVRC’s McCloskey earns Mid-Penn nod
Following the District 4 Class AA championships in Williamsport, Sugar Valley’s Jarren McCloskey was more than excited. He was going onto the Northeast Class AA Regional tournament.
But, more importantly perhaps, was the fact McCloskey was making history in the process. By qualifying for regionals, he became the second-ever Phoenix wrestler to do so.
He didn’t reach the state tournament, but McCloskey ended the season with a great run. That outstanding season helped McCloskey earn Mid-Penn boys wrestling all-star honors this season.
He was the only Phoenix wrestler to garner honors.
McCloskey went 27-12 as a senior and reached 85 wins for his career. His 27 wins tied the most he had in a single-season. He had 13 wins by fall this year.
He took second at the Central Sectional tournament and fourth at districts. Both the silver and fourth-place medals were his highest finishes at both tournaments, respectively. This was just the second year he had reached the district tournament after not placing as a junior.
