Local roundup: Jersey Shore baeball defeats Selinsgrove 11-2

Jersey Shore freshmen Carter Rhinehart and Nolen Pauling formed quite a tandem, Friday in Selinsgrove, combining for five hits, three home runs and six RBIs, while helping the Bulldogs win, 11-2. Rhinehart smashed two home runs, doubled, had three RBIs and scored three times, while Pauling went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs before closing out the win on the mound.

Seven players had hits and Landon Welshans doubled while driving in three runs as Jersey Shore (8-5) won for the fourth time in five games. The Bulldogs avenged a previous loss as well with four pitchers combining on a four-hitter.

• Central Mountain lost to Selinsgrove in boys tennis in a doubleheader, 3-2 in both matches. In the first match at No. 1 singles, Joey McCluskey fell 7-6, 6-2. Tim Brinker and Wesley Cowart both had three-set contests.

Brinker lost at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 while Cowart won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-7, 6-3.

In the second match, McCluskey and Cowart picked up victories. McCLuskey beat McAlister Defazio 6-3, 6-4 and Cowart won in three sets over Ben Rowan, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

• The Lock Haven softball team traveled to PSAC Eastern Division foe Shippensburg for its final contest of the season and fell in the doubleheader, 2-1 and 5-1. Lock Haven finishes the season 15-27 overall and 9-23 in the PSAC East.

Game one featured a pitcher’s duel as Lock Haven starter Keri Wesneski went 7.1 innings and allowed just two runs, while striking out one.

Lock Haven took the first lead of the day after six-straight shutout innings when Madison Hardy drove in Madison Melius with an RBI-single.

However, Shippensburg knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh before hitting a walk-off single in the eighth to steal the victory.

• The Lock Haven baseball team fell twice to Gannon, 5-3, in a PSAC Western Division doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Watkins Field. Lock Haven moves to 15-27 on the season and 5-15 in the PSAC West. Gannon improved to 18-23 overall and 10-12 in the conference.

In game one, Gannon built a 3-0 advantage through the opening four innings of play.

Lock Haven broke through with a solo run in the fifth following a well-executed first-and-third steal play that allowed Jacob Ambrosio to score.

Gannon, however, plated two insurance runs in the top of the sixth to extend its lead to 5-1.

Lock Haven rallied for a pair of runs during its last at bat thanks to a 2-RBI single by Bryce Vincent, but Gannon recorded the final outs to clinch the win.

• The Lock Haven men’s track and field team entered week six of its outdoor season by competing in the Maroon & Gold Invite hosted by Bloomsburg on Friday. The Bald Eagles swept the top three in the 1500-meter race with Jakob Rager finishing with a season best time of 4:02.94 in first, Jarrett Lee finishing second with a time of 4:14.72, and Skylar Small finishing with a personal best time of 4:21.58, finishing third.

Matt Reinard, who had a personal best time of 50.05 in the 400, finished first.

Jorge Santana finished first in the 100 hurdles with a personal best time of 15.37, and Austin Kravetz finished third with 15.72.

Another personal best time of 1:57.47 in the 800 saw Ridge Snyder finish third.

Lucca Capparelli, who ran 22.68 seconds, finished third in the 200 dash. Capparelli also ran the 100, finishing fourth with 11.49 seconds.

Leading the Bald Eagles on the track in women’s competition, Havanna Gordon and Lillian Bradley, who finished first and second in both the 100 and 200. Gordon finished with a time of 13.06 in the 100 and 26.33 in the 200, finishing first, and Bradley finished with a time of 13.16 in the 100 and 26.94 in the 200, finishing second.

Jersey Shore graduate Aubrey Sechrist and Kelci Carle both finished third in their respective events, with a pair of personal bests. Sechrist finished with a time of 1:01.16 in the 400 hurdles, and Carle finished with a time of 1:10.60 in the 400 hurdles.

Carle also ran in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing fourth with a time of 16.94.
