BEA’s Close earns LHAC honors as area is represented
Caleb Close had a stellar winter season for Bald Eagle Area, and his performance resulted with a Laurel Highlands Copnference all-star selection in boys wrestling as a first-teammer.
The LHAC all-stars for East and West divisions for all winter sports were released
Close was named to the team as a 189-pounder. He was the only Bellefonte or Bald Eagle Area wrestler to be honored. Close, who committed to wrestle at American, went 44-2 this past year and won gold at districts and regionals and was a silver medalist at the state tournament.
Bellefonte’s Ryder Hamilton was named a Laurel Highlands Conference second-team all-star for the East.
Hamilton was joined by Penns Valley’s Fletcher Ironside ont he second team. Earning honorable honors from the area was Bald Eagle Area’s Jame Cowan.
Penns Valley’s Elle Dinges was an honorable mention LHAC all-star for girls basketball in the East. Bellefonte and Bald Eagle Area did not have any girls basketball all-star selections by the league.
In boys swimming, Bald Eagle Area’s Elijah Mercier received second-team all-star honors in the 100 free. Earning first-team honors included Pens Valley’s Liam Quigley in both the 200 IM and 100 breast.
In girls swimming, Penns Valley’s 200 medley relay team of Eleanor Gillan, Mila Klena, Charlotte Delaney and Abby Hagelgans were all first-team all-stars in the LHAC. Gillan was a first-team selection in the 50 free while Delaney earned honors for the 500 free.
Penns Valley’s Gillan (100 back) and Klena (100 breast) were second-team all-stars as was the Rams’ 400 free relay team of Delaney, Hagelgans, Gillan and Klena.
