Local roundup: Taylor Doyle scores career-high 34 in CM’s win vs. South

Tayor Doyle seemingly couldn’t miss. The Wildcat scored 19 first-quarter points en route to a career-high 34, lifting Central Mountain to a 62-52 win against South Williamsport on the road in girls basketball.

Ella Moore had a huge game, scoring a career-high 23 points while Abby Akers added 19 to lead South Williamsport’s girls basketball team.

Central Mountain scored 22 points in the first quarter to take a 10-point lead over the Mounties and held a 36-18 lead at the half.

In addition to Doyle’s 34 points, Ava Doyle scored 13 points and Camdyn Weaver added 11.

• Jersey Shore defeated St. John Neumann, 61-54. Ben Dalton posted a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Bulldogs in the win while Jake Lorson scored 12 points and had four steals. Landon Lathan dished out a team-high 10 assists.

Neumann was led by Dalton Thompson’s 23 point performance and Andrew Walter’s 19.

North Penn-Mansfield defeated North Penn-Liberty, 76-54. Mansfield had a trip of 19-point scorers in Alex Davis (20), Cooper Shaw (19) and Jason Harer (19).

Liberty saw three players record double figures with Louis Mercantino’s 15, Adynn Wheeland’s 14 and Luke Kreger’s 14. Liberty also saw Blake Oakley score nine.

• Lock Haven split a doubleheader at the UVA Wise Tournament in college softball. The Bald Eagles defeated UVA Wise, 3-0, before falling to North Greenville, 4-2.

In the season opener, Middleton pitched a complete-game shutout, while scattering six hits and racking up six strikeouts. Five different Bald Eagles recorded a hit and Blaire Balestrini went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run in her debut. Hailey Irwin added an RBI double.

In the night cap, Lock Haven once again scored first with a solo run in the bottom of the third. However, North Greenville struck for three runs in the top of the fourth, which proved to be the difference.
