Lock Haven’s rally comes up shy in men’s basketball against West Chester
WEST CHESTER — The Lock Haven men’s basketball team (6-7, 3-4 PSAC) cut a 20-point deficit to four late in the second half, but the Bald Eagles’ comeback bid ran out of time as West Chester (12-2, 8-0 PSAC) hung on for an 85-76 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory on Monday night.
The Golden Rams led by as much as 20 on the night, but the Bald Eagles came storming back in the second half and used an 18-3 run beginning at the 6:24 mark to cut their deficit to four (78-74) with just over a minute remaining.
Lock Haven forced six West Chester turnovers during the run and did not allow a field goal. Eli Washington led the charge on offense with eight points.
However, time was no longer on the Bald Eagles side and West Chester converted its free throws down the stretch to close out the victory.
The Bald Eagles nearly matched the Golden Rams shooting percentages across the box score, but West Chester’s defense created extra possessions by forcing a game-high 18 turnovers that led to a game-high 27-points off turnovers.
Washington finished with 14 points, six rebounds and three assists to lead the way for Lock Haven.
Blake Deegan (five rebounds) and Gabe Springer (two steals) finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Loyalsock graduate Idris Ali led the bench scoring with eight points.
The Bald Eagles return home to host PSAC East foe East Stroudsburg University inside Thomas Fieldhouse at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
