BEA, Bellefonte advance multiple wrestlers to semis at Laurel Highland Championships

On Friday afternoon, the Bald Eagle Area and Bellefonte wrestling teams kicked off their respective runs at the Laurel Highlands Wrestling Championship, taking place at Central Cambria High School. Through Day One of the event, four Eagles and two Red Raiders made it all the way to championship semifinals.

For Bald Eagle, sophomores Tanner Guenot (127) and Dawson Lomison (139), junior Caden Judice (133) and senior Caleb Close (189) advanced to semis at their respective weight classes. Close did so with two first-period pins, Guenot posted a pair of tech falls and Judice attributed a tech fall in quarters and a sub-minute pin against Bellefonte’s Jacob Horn prior to that. Lomison saw the closest match of the quartet, earning a 7-0 decision over Bellefonte’s Cameron Garcia to keep his championship run alive.

For Bellefonte, Ezra Swisher (152) and Noah Weaver (160) kept their championship runs alive as well. Swisher did so with two falls, pinning Bald Eagle Area’s Nicholas McCully in his first bout at 2:17 before following that up with a first-period pin to cap his day. Noah Weaver’s lone match of the day came against Penn Cambia’s Nathan Mack, who he defeated by 21-3 tech fall at 3:23.

Freshman Tyler Corey, Alex Surovec and Gage Gardner each have tournament stock remaining for the Eagles, looking to bounce back after quarterfinal defeats. Same goes for Bellefonte’s Wyatt Long, Cameron Garcia, Andrew Gall, Jackson Long, Luke Hockenberry and Logan Rarrick.

Action is set to resume tomorrow.
