Local roundup: CM golf’s Fisher, St. Clair conclude season at districts

Central Mountain golf competed in the District 6 Class 3A golf final on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. With the district taking the top three to move on, Luke McGraw from State College, Hollidaysburg’s Isaac Miller and State College’s Chris Warner placed in the top three to advance. McGraw shot a 74 and Miller and Warner each shot a 75.

Stevan Fisher shot an 82 for the Wildcats and Zach St. Clair an 89 to conclude their season.

• Jack Breining scored in the first half off an assist by DJ Monny which cut the deficit down to a goal, but Jersey Shore wasn’t able to rally as the Bulldogs fell to Selinsgrove, 2-1. Roman Dittmar posted six saves in goal for Jersey Shore.

• The Lock Haven women’s soccer team traveled to Shippensburg for a Pennsylvania States Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup and the Raiders scored a late goal to steal a 1-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

After a scoreless 69 minutes to open the game, Shippensburg found the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner. Although Lock Haven took just two shots in the first half, the Bald Eagles improved their shot total to nine in the second half, but were held without points. Lock Haven goalkeeper Megan Miller made a game-high seven saves while Sydney Stahl led The Haven’s attack with three shots-on-goal.

• In men’s soccer, Connor Swope secured a hat trick to vault Lock Haven to a 4-2 PSAC West victory over the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Wednesday night. Swope’s hat trick is the first for the program since Sept. 3, 2022. Swope scored twice in the first half and once in the second half, all coming from Lock Haven set pieces. And Ryan Miller put the exclamation point on the match in the 72nd minute after he headed in a free kick off the foot of Ogan.

• Bellefonte girls and boys cross country held its fourth home meet of the season on Wednesday afternoon, a trio-meet with Penn Cambria and Bishop McCort. Bellefonte’s girls defeated both Bishop McCort and Penn Cambria by scores of 50-15.

The boys defeated Bishop McCort, 20-35 and Penn Cambria 19-36.

The girls had a clean sweep, taking the first five positions. Addison Fry and Natalie Jolley ran together and finished right beside one another at the line. Emma Burger took third, Anna Tyson fourth and senior Alexis Fravel fifth.

Ruthann Smoyer finished ninth.

“It was really nice to see the girls all have smiles during and after the race. A lot of positives after today,” Bellefonte coach Chad Wiler said.

Kaiden Williams paced the boys side with a first-place finish as Maverick Muchmore finished second and Jonathan Gasper third. Elijah Davis finished fifth and Kaiden Musser finished 13th.

“The boys continue to show strength in their running and everyone is looking forward to competing this Saturday at the Ridgway Invitational,” coach Wiler added.

The girls move to 7-1 and the boys move to 8-0, keeping them both in the hunt for the Laurel Highlands Section 3 Championship.
