A few years ago, 2016, I received a phone call from a friend complimenting me for a Letter to the Editor that I had written and he urged me to write more. He, now deceased, had been a respected Republican public official and my high school chemistry teacher. In that letter, I had criticized a presidential candidate who had as a top advisor a Nazi sympathizer, Steve Bannon. It is now 2024, and we are furiously rowing, for the sake of our country, in the same boat.
I paraphrase an article from a well-known journalist, Heather Cox Richardson, written on Oct 26, 2024: “In 1943, the War Department published pamphlets called Army Talks. In the 1945 March issue, the topic was fascism. They explained that fascism is government by the few and for the few. The objective was seizure and control of the economic, political, social, and cultural life of the state. People run democratic governments, but fascist governments run the people. Anyone who is not a member of the inner gang has to do what he is told to do. Fascist propaganda insist that it is smart and realistic to be pitiless and violent. They played political, religious, social and economic groups against each other and seized power while these groups struggled. The War Department warned that Americans should not be fooled into thinking that fascism could not come to America! Fascists would take power under the guise of super patriotism and super-Americanism. They will drape themselves in the American Flag and try to get people to hate rather than to think. They will falsely promise prosperity. Fascism thrives on indifference and ignorance.”
I now ask you, which current presidential candidate most fits this fascist profile?
Vote!
Vote for Democracy. Vote for America. Vote for yourself and vote for my friend, Bill.
I dedicate this letter to Bill.
