Adam Tyler Smith

Adam Tyler Smith, 36, of Castanea, Pa., passed away on April 6, 2025 at the Gatehouse in Williamsport.

Adam was born in Lock Haven to Carl and Kathy (Crissman) Smith on June 9, 1988. He graduated from Central Mountain High School in 2006. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Lock Haven University in 2010 and shortly thereafter entered the field of corrections.

Adam began his career at Clinton County Correctional Facility where he held the rank of Correctional Officer and Lieutenant. Adam began working at the Allegheny County Jail in 2016 as a captain, was promoted to Major in 2018, and promoted to Deputy Warden of Operations in 2021. In June of 2023, he began working at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility as the Chief Deputy Warden.

Throughout his dedicated career, he obtained certifications as an instructor, taser, pepperball and PREA.

Adam is survived by his parents, Carl and Kathy; sister, Erika; brother, Jared (Alex); niece, Willa; his best friend, Laura, and many loving family and friends. His impact and reach was wide and he loved meeting people and striking up conversations. Adam valued family and friends more than anything.

Adam had a passion for life and encouraged others to have as much fun at every opportunity. He loved spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting with his beloved beagle, Leo. The Jolly Ramblers was his retreat, and he enjoyed entertaining family and the valley with fireworks, especially on the holidays. He was a diehard Penn State and Dallas Cowboys fan.

Adam was an avid golfer, with a Tiger Wood’s mentality of intense focus and a drive to win, which he cultivated at a young age from his Uncle Ellery. He was proud to co-organize the Stephen B. Herrold Memorial Golf Tournament annually. He attended many NASCAR races throughout the country with family and friends. He was an active member of Castanea Fire Company, Jolly Ramblers Hunting Club, NWTF Bald Eagle Longbeards Chapter, PPWA, and PCCA.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2025 at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 1175 W. Fourth St., Lock Haven, Pa. at 11:30 a.m. with Pastor David Miller officiating.

Family and friends will be received in the church at 9 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 477 Brungard Road, Loganton, PA 17747.

Funeral Services are under the direction of Gedon Funeral Homes and Cremation Services LLC, 121 W. Main St. Lock Haven, PA.

Memorial donations may be made in Adam’s name through the funeral home to the Clinton County SPCA or NWTF Bald Eagle Longbeards Chapter.

The family is deeply grateful for the compassionate and dedicated caregivers at the Gatehouse.
