Earl G. ‘Gordy’ Thompson
Earl G. “Gordy” Thompson, 92, of Howard, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Sept. 21, 1932, in Howard, he was the son of the late Roy and Katie (Holt) Thompson.
Earl graduated from Howard High School in 1950, and on June 3, 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably until his discharge on Jan. 24, 1955. After returning home, Earl worked as a laborer at Cerro Copper and Brass in Bellefonte, where he dedicated 46 years of service before retiring.
In addition to his work at Cerro, he spent many years assisting with funeral services at W. Robert Neff Funeral Home and Kader-Neff Funeral Home in Howard.
Earl is survived by his five children, Leslie Thompson, of Ohio, Sandra Koleno and her husband, Rick, of Lock Haven, Lana Sutton and her husband, Rich, of Howard, Joyce Thompson and her companion, Joe Confer, of Howard, and Cathy Nyman and her partner, Russ Dolan, of Howard; one brother, Arlin Thompson and his wife, Sharon, of Howard; and the mother of his children, Patricia Stover, of Howard. Earl’s legacy continues through his 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and he treasured each one dearly. He will also be missed by his faithful companion, Jax.
Earl was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Thompson; a daughter, Lesa Thompson; grandchildren, Nicole Hefferon and Krista Thompson; a great-grandchild, Elery Yingling; five brothers; four sisters; and his beloved dog, Abby.
A public viewing will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Howard United Methodist Church, where a Lions Memorial service will take place at 4:45 p.m.
The funeral service will follow at 5 p.m., officiated by Pastor Craig Rose. Interment will be private at Schenck’s Cemetery in Howard.
