Lawrence (Larry) Allen Rupert
Lawrence (Larry) Allen Rupert, 80, of Lock Haven, formerly of Eagleville, passed away on Sept. 29, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Larry was born on Aug. 24, 1944, in Lock Haven to the late Howard A. and Mary Heimer Rupert of Eagleville. A 1962 graduate of Lock Haven High School, he joined the United States 24th Infantry Division where he served his country as a staff sergeant from 1966 to 1970.
Larry was known by many as the circulation manager at the Lock Haven Express, where he was employed for 44 years, but it was his work with the Clinton County Special Olympics and Clinton County Community Connections, Inc. that will define his legacy.
Larry was instrumental in establishing the Special Olympics in Clinton County, where he was manager and a coach for 35 years. In 2017, he was inducted into the Special Olympics Pennsylvania Hall of Fame. For 16 years, he served as Board president of Clinton County Community Connections, Inc., a day program for people with intellectual disabilities.
Larry loved golfing, hunting, sporting clays, traveling and spending quality time with his family.
On Nov. 17, 1990, he married the love of his life, Carole Ann (Schiesler) Rupert, who survives at home.
In addition to his loving wife, Larry is survived by a brother, Howard E. (Denise) Rupert of Eagleville; sister-in-law, Virginia Rupert of Eagleville; two sons, Eric Rupert of Wrightsville and Terry Smith of Lock Haven; a daughter, Kathy (Ray) Watkins of Lock Haven; two grandchildren, Kyle Rupert and Rachel (David Jr.) Simcox of Lock Haven; two great grandchildren, Nova and Bentley Simcox; and several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Karen Rupert; brother, Charles Rupert; and nephew, Steven Rupert.
He will be forever loved and missed by those whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Singer-Kader-Neff Funeral Home, 135 West Main Street, Howard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Clinton County Special Olympics, P.O. Box 178, Lock Haven, PA 17745.
