Man threatens to set troopers on fire following vehicle chase

MILL HALL — A 42-year-old Mill Hall man was cited for assault and other related charges after threatening multiple state troopers during an incident near the intersection of Eagle Valley and Crystal Beech roads, Bald Eagle Township, on Feb. 11, state police at Lamar said.

At 2:17 p.m. that day, Brandon Bitner — who was wanted by PSP — failed to yield to emergency lights and sirens as troopers attempted to make a traffic stop in the area, police said.

Bitner allegedly nearly struck a patrol cruiser and led troopers on a mile long pursuit before exiting the vehicle and brandishing a long edged weapon, similar to a machete, threatening troopers with it while failing to comply with lawful commands, police said.

Bitner then picked up a small container of gasoline and attempted to throw it on troopers while threatening to light them on fire, police said.

While continuing to be non-compliant, Bitner was subdued by less than lethal measures and taken into custody, police said.

Bitner was charged with aggravated assault, fleeing and eluding, terroristic threats, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, resisting arrest and a plethora of summary traffic violations, police said.
