Express reader shares Easter photo just in time for holiday

EXPRESS FILE PHOTO

Express reader Elizabeth DuFour recently contacted The Express regarding this old photo of her father, Billy Entz, which was published in the newspaper over 50 years ago.

DuFour recently found a saved copy of the page and thought to call The Express to see if we still had the image in our archives.

“My dad was so tickled over those colored eggs. They were a bluish green color, and the others were pink. He was so excited,” said DuFour. Now DuFour’s grandson is also raising peeps.

“It brings memories back to me, seeing him do this,” said DuFour.

The old photo was originally published on April 8, 1971 with the following caption:

“EASTER EGGS STRAIGHT FROM THE HEN — Billy Entz, of Beech Creek, is one person who never bothers about coloring his chickens’ eggs for Easter. They come from the chicken already colored, although they may not be as brilliant as some colored with food dyes. Mr. Entz’s chickens are a South American breed called Araucana. They originated in Chile, and were first raised there by the Araucana Indians. Nicknamed the Easter Egg Fowl, their egg color varies from greenish blue to brownish pink, although the soft pastel color failed to show well in the photographer’s efforts.”

Starting at $3.69/week.
