WTL to lower television recycling cost
McELHATTAN — The Clinton County Solid Waste Authority Board of Directors elected recently to reduce the cost of television recycling at the Wayne Township Landfill.
Following work by the landfill, the board elected to reduce the cost to recycle televisions by $20 for the remainder of 2025.
In a release from the Wayne Township Landfill, it announced, with the board’s focus on what is best for Clinton County residents, it voted last week to decrease the cost of television recycling from $30 to $10 per television for the remainder of 2025.
“The Clinton County Solid Waste Authority Board of Directors has been working to find a way to lower the cost to Clinton County residents for recycling televisions. They are pleased to announce that the price of recycling televisions is coming down,” a release from the board said.
According to the release, environmental regulations don’t allow electronic devices to be put in landfills.
With the constant change of televisions and computer monitors over the years, which continue to see updates and adjustments, the authority’s board requested the landfill’s management team review its electronic process. This included review of what types of televisions and monitors have been received and how much more modern devices weigh.
When the landfill first began to collect these items for recycling, it would get hundreds of console televisions that were large, bulky and very heavy.
However, with changes in technology televisions have gotten bigger, but lighter, the release noted.
“The data we received is proving that the big, heavy TVs and computer monitors are working their way out of society,” the release said.
WTL’s management team looked at television and monitor recycling totals for the past year in volume and in weight. They looked at how many televisions were collected, how the economics worked between the residents of Clinton County, Wayne Township Landfill and how much was charged by the recycler to take the televisions.
