TAMARACK — From start to finish, the month of November was great for one local hunter.

Aptly named, local student Hunter Mills, 14, has been active in the woods his entire life and recently had a great season.

On the first of November he harvested his first ever bear with a 60-yard archery shot. Mills had a half day of school that day and harvested the bear while on an afternoon hunt with his step-dad.

“I wasn’t expecting to get a bear. It was definitely exciting to get my first bear. I was nervous when it came out (of the woods),” said Mills.

Mills got a nine-point buck with split brow tines on the very first day of rifle buck season, Nov. 30. He harvested the buck with a Ruger 308 that his step dad retired and gifted to him several years ago.

“It was my first time killing my buck with (that) crew. Everybody that was there was excited for me. It was cool,” said Mills.

Mills’ trophies were dropped off to local taxidermist Carmen Ferrara to preserve them forever.

“The bear and buck are both going to be shoulder mounts. I’m excited to see them hanging on the wall in my room,” said Mills.

Starting at $3.69/week.
