LOCK HAVEN — Nearly 200 people turned out for a special two-night showing of “Next of Kin: A Murder Mystery Dinner” held as a fundraiser for the Annie Halenbake Ross Library.
The dinner was held at the Sons and Daughters of Italy’s heated outdoor patio on Saturday, April 12, and again on Sunday, April 13, — each saw a large number of those eager to try and solve this mystery.
The mystery takes place at Hamilton “Big Daddy” Sugarbaker’s (Chris Stannonis) birthday party in Atlanta, Ga., where the billionaire’s strange and wacky family have gathered — along with dinner guests — to celebrate the patriarch who made his millions in “bottle caps and brazeers.”
The cast consisted of Rhett Sugarbaker (John Shaffer), Big Daddy’s oldest son, and his wife, Scarlett (Angela Harding), a woman who came from the wrong side of the tracks; Ashley Sugarbaker (Ben Green), Big Daddy’s young, sensitive, son and his newly-wed wife, Melanie (Denya Mutchler); Bobbie Jo Butler (Tami Brannan), Big Daddy’s trusted nurse; Philly (Trish Severino), Big Daddy’s sister; Savannah (Tracey White), Big Daddy’s estranged wife; and Beulah Busty (Amy Corbett) Big Daddy’s lawyer.
All have gathered to celebrate Big Daddy’s birthday when, suddenly, the patriarch collapses after taking a drink. Bobbie Jo is quick to point out Big Daddy was poisoned.

And so begins the search to find out who exactly could have murdered Big Daddy.
Narrated by Bill Feerrar, the audience was led through each act which offered clues, twists and turns, laughs and lots of audience interaction all leading up to the big finale.
The show was sponsored by Woodlands Bank, Clinton County PA Democratic Party, Lock Haven Rehabilitation & Senior Living, Lea Ann S. Plessigner CPA, LLC, Redmond’s Complete Comfort HVAC, Clear Air Technologies, Schlesinger Communications, Nittany Valley Holistic Health, Stella A’s, KFC, Rey Azetca, Pearls Cafe and Friends of the Ross Library, and serves as a fundraiser for activities at the library each year.
“A big thank you to the actors, sponsors and everyone who came out and supported the library. Our shows are a big hit and we look forward to doing it every year,” said Rona Houser, board member and fundraising chair.
