LOCK HAVEN — Everyone is invited to drop by and spend a few minutes at an informal open house for “people of action” Tuesday, Oct. 8, from 5-7 p.m., in Poorman Gallery, 352 E. Water St., Lock Haven.

Four local nonprofits will be represented, and they would like to meet you.

Downtown Lock Haven Rotary is the host and will offer wine and other refreshments.

Also on hand will be Boxes of Hope, Haven Cupboard and Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank.

If you’ve ever thought about giving back to the community or if you want to pay something forward, you can start by dropping in Tuesday evening and learning if any of these organizations are a good fit for you.

Downtown Rotary is known for Flags of Honor in Triangle Park for Memorial Day. Other club projects are Little Libraries, Angel Lights for 9/11, gift bags for veterans in nursing homes, cookies for first-responders and more.

The club donates thousands of dollars to local nonprofit groups every year. It supports the downtown. It gives three scholarships and co-sponsors the Interact club at Central Mountain High School. The Rotarians have helped local families as well as disaster victims around the world, supported the fight to stamp out polio and helped local food banks.

Downtown Rotary meets for an hour on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. in the Poorman Gallery. The members give a little time and create big impacts together.

Boxes of Hope is a nonprofit founded by a breast cancer survivor. It gives care packages, mastectomy pillows and most importantly, hope and encouragement to breast cancer warriors.

Haven Cupboard is a food pantry for Commonwealth University — Lock Haven students. Located at 340 W. Main St. (the former Lock Haven High School cafeteria/Nanobytes), it helps ease food insecurity and allows students to concentrate more on academic success.

The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank, inside Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., gives free new, quality shoes to eligible kids and teens throughout Clinton County and the Liberty-Curtin Elementary School area. The Shoe Bank also gives books, new socks and new winter boots in season. Everything is free.

If you would like more information about the open house or about “the magic of Rotary,” please email dlhrotary@gmail.com.

Starting at $3.69/week.
