BEECH CREEK - Claude Rupert was a Navy veteran of World War II who served his country at Pearl Harbor.
And though this man was strong enough to withstand the war, the roaring waters of Thursday's storm were far too violent - they carried Rupert away that night, with his loved ones left behind to mourn the loss of a good man.
The search began almost immediately after he was swept away by the swollen waters of Little Sugar Run.
Crews searched relentlessly Thursday into early Friday morning. They resumed later that morning and continued until about 7:30 p.m. Friday.
It looked grim. The search was aborted.
But just as the waters were finally able to rest after the storm, Rupert's body was found.
