Horizon Federal Credit Union donates bears to LH Hospital

February 18, 2012

The laboratory at Lock Haven Hospital has been invaded by a collection of 138 bears of various species, sizes and colors due to the generosity of the staff and customers of Horizon Federal Credit Union’s Bear Fund. The credit union collected nearly $1,800 in the bear fund, then purchased bears for distribution to area health care facilities. The bears are adopted out to children who visit the lab for blood draws and other testing. “We set up a miniature zoo in the lab and let kids pick out their favorite when they come in for a test,” said Michelle Mader, director, laboratory, Lock Haven Hospital. “We are thankful to Horizon Federal Credit Union for their generosity and the calming effect the bears have on kids.” The Lock Haven Hospital lab sees an average of 50 to 60 children per month.
