Thomas W. Bauman, 83, of 2 Quiggle Ave., Castanea, died Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 at the Williamsport Hospital.

He was born Dec. 30, 1926 in Castanea Township, the son of the late Raymond and Meda Shaffer Brown.

On April 28, 1944 in Macon, Ga., he married the former Geneva M. Goodman who survives.

Tom was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an accomplished pilot and retired from Piper Aircraft Corporation in 1982 as a test pilot. He received the Federal Aviation Administration 50-year Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award.

He served for many years on the Castanea Township Board of Supervisors and was the chairman of the annual Halloween parade. He was a member and past chief of the Hand-in-Hand Hose Company, the Central District Volunteer Fire Association and the Fireman's Relief Association.

He was also a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time at the families Buckeye Hunting Camp.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara (Ron) Grimm, of Castanea, two grandsons, Keith and Kevin Grimm, and five great grandchildren, Courtney, Tyler, Nathan, Joey, and Matthew.

He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas W. Bauman Jr. (Dorothy Maggs), a sister, Helen James, and a brother, Malcolm Bauman.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, with Pastor Bruce Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Dunnstown Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
