LOCK HAVEN - Keystone Community Network Inc. has expanded the reach and quality of its high-speed wireless Internet service to the benefit of residents and businesses in McElhattan.
KCnet introduced high-speed wireless Internet service to the Lock Haven area more than seven years ago at an economical cost to residents of $35 per month for connection speeds near 1 Mbps. Now, for the same rate, customers will get connection speeds near 3 Mbps, and they have the option to purchase even faster speeds if needed.
"KCnet is a membership-driven, not-for-profit organization proudly serving Clinton County and the surrounding region," said KCnet Executive Director Sue Foust. "KCnet's mission is to improve the quality of life and quality of business in the communities we serve by offering our members access to a wide range of quality, high-value, communications and information technology resources."
This most recent KCnet network expansion and improvement project gives residents and businesses in the McElhattan area an alternative to traditional wired Internet service options, such as cable or DSL, without the requirement to purchase other services.
"Our new high-speed wireless Internet service offers a local, friendly company alternative to traditional providers at a very economical price with no strings attached," Foust said.
KCnet has been able to keep the area on technology's cutting-edge over the years through financial contributions from its members, and a variety of federal, state, and local grants.
Grants for community projects are provided by the Clinton County United Way, Clinton County Community Foundation and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, with support from legislators such as state Rep. Mike Hanna, D-Lock Haven, and Sen. John Wozniak, D-Johnstown.
Those interested should call KCnet's offices at 893-8111, or visit the office at 18 E. Main St.
