Clair Lee "Doc" Miller, 80, passed unexpectedly at Geisinger Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008.
Doc was a Corporal in the U.S. Army in Company I, 9th Infantry.
Over his lifetime, Clair was active in many community associations. He was instrumental in obtaining funding for the Castanea Fireman's Memorial Bridge.
He served as chairman of the Pine Creek Township Planning Commission, and was chairman of the Pine Creek Township Sewer Authority. He served on the board of directors for Fairview at Shawnee in the Poconos. In recent years, he enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen cooking hot dogs during the Woolrich Festival, doing puzzles, repairing anything mechanical and creating amazing holiday decorations for the front of his home.
Doc was also a member of Swissdale United Methodist Church, Hope Hose Fire Company and was the owner and operator of the C.L. Miller Garage for over 30 years, retiring in 1995.
He was born Nov. 25, 1927 in Williamsport. Doc was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Miriam Probst Miller, and a brother, Norman Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Louise Yoder Miller; his children, Linda S. (Terry) Vance of Newark, Del., and Steve C. (Janelle) Miller of Woolrich; four grandchildren, Nicole and Ryan Vance and Devin and Logan Miller; two sisters, Shirley Werner of Williamsport and Arla Moyer of Canton; and a brother, Dale Miller of Williamsport.
Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Swissdale United Methodist Church, with visitation Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington. Officiating will be the Rev. Ginger Baker-Betz. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Swissdale United Methodist Church or the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
