Odd burglary
LIBERTY - It's an odd burglary that sees somebody breaking into a home to steal a set of keys and using the keys to steal a truck - only to return the truck unharmed and place the keys back inside the burglarized house.
But that's what state troopers say happened in a break-in Monday along Main Street in Liberty Township.
State police at Rockview say two suspects, known to troopers and the victim, entered the home through a window housing an air conditioner. The suspects then took a set of keys from the residence and drove the victim's truck for about an hour before returning the pickup to the home and leaving the keys to the truck inside the victim's home.
Sentenced for hurting son
LOGANTON - Torrence Kessinger, 57, of 1379 W. Valley Road, was sentenced Monday to 11 and a half months to two years in prison for hitting his son over the head with a 10-pound metal hydraulic tire boot jack last March.
The sentence was handed down in Lycoming County Court by Senior Judge Clinton W. Smith Sr.
Smith pleaded guilty last June to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to police, Kessinger and his son, Jared Brown, were playing pool at a home in Old Lycoming Township March 18, 2007, when Brown shoved Kessinger in the chest. Kessinger then reached for the jack and hit his son.
As part of the sentence, Kessinger was ordered to pay $934 in restitution to Brown and $1,516 to Geisinger Health System.
Aggravated assault
JERSEY SHORE - Matthew Scott Bathurst, 20, of 146 S. Route 44, was charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another and simple assault Saturday following a fight in the borough, police said.
Police said Bathurst used a sharp item and made threatening gestures at another person on North Main Street.
He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge James G. Carn and was committed to Lycoming County Prison in default of $25,000 bail.
One-vehicle crash
LOGANTON - A one-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 80 in Greene Township Saturday at 6:20 a.m., state police at Lamar said.
Police said Reynold Carmichael, 53, of Indianapolis, Ind., was driving his 2004 Buick LeSabre east when he fell asleep. The car traveled 100 feet of the road before rolling over and crashing into a tree.
Carmichael and his passenger, Sherry Carmichael, 20, were taken to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for evaluation. Both were wearing seatbelts, police said.
