WINGATE — When a team has accomplished as much as the Bald Eagle Area softball team, the players have to look hard to find a challenge. No matter how good you are you can always get better. For this reason, a number of girls from the team play softball in the summer to stay sharp during the off-season. “The goal of summer ball is to give the girls a chance to get more exposure,” said Jerry Watson, head coach of the Central PA Eagles. “It does a lot to help them improve as they prepare to start playing high school ball again.” So as an added challenge, for the first time this decade the Central Penn League will send a team to the ASA national softball tournament. The last time a local team went to this tournament was when Dave Breon took his Bellefonte Belles down to Texas in the late 1990s. This team, fittingly called the Eagles, will be leaving this Monday for Moline, Illinois to participate in the first round of the tournament.
